HerStory of connection: As we observe the final week of Black History Month, we remember that many American women’s organizations — including the broader club movement — were historically segregated. Yet women leaders in Marion recognized the importance of collaboration across communities. In 1951, they welcomed Mrs. Rose Nichols, a longtime Marion businesswoman and dedicated civic leader, to share the work of her organization and its impact. Moments like these remind us that progress often begins with conversation, mutual respect, and a willingness to build bridges that strengthen the whole community.
